How does turmeric prevent cancer and heart attacks?
Many studies have shown that turmeric can destroy various types of cancer cells. Curcumin is the main active ingredient of turmeric. A study has shown that curcumin can destroy many types of cancer cells.
You probably know that most of the time when a cancer patient is treated, chemotherapy is given. One of the disadvantages of chemotherapy is that the person becomes ill after this chemotherapy. This is because chemotherapy destroys healthy cells in the body. That is, chemotherapy destroys our cancer cells as well as healthy cells, due to which the patient becomes more ill not from the disease, but from chemotherapy.
In this case, the study shows that curcumin destroys only cancer cells, not healthy cells. A study in mice showed that curcumin can prevent cancer. In this study, rats were given chemicals that cause cancer, and some rats were also given turmeric. Later, it was found that those who were given turmeric did not have colon cancer, skin cancer, or stomach cancer.
How Curcumin works against cancer
- First of all, curcumin can kill or destroy cancer cells.
- Curcumin can inhibit angiogenesis. As the tumor grows, the cancer cells grow rapidly. They need a lot of food and grow faster than normal cells. Then they make blood vessels for their convenience so that they can collect food from the blood. This process is called angiogenesis.
Research has shown that curcumin can stop angiogenesis, which is why cancer cells can’t get food, so cancer cells can’t grow.
- Curcumin can stop metastasis. Metastasis is the spread of cancer cells from one organ or tissue to another. Research has shown that curcumin can also stop this metastasis process.
How curcumin plays a role in heart disease:
There are many causes of endothelial dysfunction. This endothelial dysfunction can lead to many types of heart disease. Curcumin or turmeric is the main ingredient that can work against this endothelial dysfunction. Inflammation and oxidation are related to the heart. Many studies have shown that curcumin can reduce inflammation and oxidation or oxidative stress. The study was conducted on 121 bypass surgery patients. They are divided into two parts. They will be operated on later or in a few days. One group was given 4 grams of curcumin per day from a few days before to a few days after surgery. This operation reduced the risk of heart attack by 65% in the group that was fed curcumin.
